How to Track Reading Fluency: A Practical Approach for Inclusive Learning.

Live Webinar | Thursday 1st October | 6:00PM BST

Reading fluency is not a performative metric. It's a signal that a child's reading is flowing at every level.

Why This Matters

Reading fluency is often measured by speed and accuracy. But speed can increase, while coherence fragments. When decoding and comprehension are not synchronised in real-time, reading can still sound perfectly fluent - but the meaning doesn't land. If we only measure the superficial layers of reading, we miss these deeper structures.

This Session Explores How To:

  • Track fluency as synchrony between decoding and comprehension.

  • Identify early signs of weak timing in reading.

  • Use fluency tracking to support inclusion and depth of provision.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to interpret fluency beyond speed, and uncover what expression is actually signalling.

  • How to recognise the early signs of what I call a rhythm block when a child's reading lacks a natural flow.

  • How to track coherence in ways that support inclusion and inform intervention.
